The Rape of Nanking
- Mass murder and mass rape committed by Japanese troops in Nanking during the Second Sino-Japanese War
- Happened at China’s capital city of Nanking
- Started on December 13, 1937, lasted for six weeks
- Estimated in 1948 over 300,000 Chinese killed in the accident
- 6 weeks later Japanese troops engaged in rape, murder, theft, arson, and other war crimes
- The International Military Tribunal of the Far East estimated 20,000 women were raped, including infants and the elderly
- 1/3 of the city was burned down including new government buildings
- Pregnant women were target of murder, as they often were stabbed with a bayonet in the stomach, and sometimes raped
- The Chinese were forced to bury each other alive
- So matter what age or gender, anyone could be shot for any or no reason
- Japan pillaged all sorts of people rich and poor
- Sons were forced to rape their mothers, and fathers were forced to rape their daughters
- At the end, Japanese army forced all refugees in the Safety Zone to return home claiming that they have restored order.
- Demanded surrender or there would be absolute destruction
- Chinese suggested a cease fire to pull out of Nanking
- Chinese general denied
- The International Committee had forwarded to the Japanese embassy a total 450 cases of murder, rape, and general disorder by the soldiers
